Earth Day & Open House

2017 Event Recap

On Saturday, April 8th, over 1,500 community members attended the region’s largest Earth Day & Open House as the Cucamonga Valley Water District kicked off the month of Earth Day events in Rancho Cucamonga. The event offered attendees a wide span of resources and engaging activities, including over 50 vendors and booths, from solar panel companies to community groups to kids’ activities. Event highlights included landscape workshops, document shredding, and master of ceremonies Joel Greene - creator, producer, and host of PBS’s “Curiosity Quest.” New this year was electric vehicle test drives and performances and eco-rhymes by Queen Green

The Earth Day & Open House provided fun and education for the entire family. The CVWD Open House gave attendees the opportunity to observe the cutting-edge work performed by CVWD staff. CVWD’s Water Utility Department provided a hands-on water distribution display. Other demonstrations included water testing as it happens in CVWD’s water treatment plant, demonstration of wastewater maintenance, emergency preparedness, and much more.

“We are excited at the number of community members who were able to join us in celebrating Earth Day this year,” commented Director Kathleen Tiegs. “It’s great to know that so many people want to know more about how their everyday decisions affect our environment and even our region. We enjoyed seeing people of all ages having a great time and learning more about CVWD and water conservation.”
