CVWD/District is pleased to announce the winners of its 9th annual Water Savvy Landscape Contest which promotes water efficiency by recognizing residents who have installed beautiful, water saving landscapes. This year’s Grand Prize Winners are Steve and Karen Diffenbacher, Glen Miller, and Sara Owens. Honorable Mention is awarded to Russell and Tracie Gray, Sam and Ann Kachaenchai, Luis and Lorena Leon, and Blake English and Melinda Salazar. Open to all CVWD customers, the 2015 contest kicked-off in February and ran through April. Each landscape was evaluated based on a set of criteria which included overall water efficiency, appearance, selection of plant material, and irrigation design. The winners were formally recognized at the CVWD Board of Directors meeting on June 23rd. “Now more than ever it is essential to educate the community about saving water outdoors and the Landscape Contest provides that opportunity,” stated CVWD Board President James V. Curatalo, Jr. “We are grateful to these model residents, our ambassadors, who are setting the example through their beautiful water saving landscapes. And we commend all customers for doing their part to use water efficiently.”Grand Prize Winners receive a $250 gift certificate to a local nursery and an invitation to participate in CVWD’s Garden Tour, held every spring. All winners receive a sign for their yard and recognition on the CVWD website and in The Pipeline customer newsletter. Since the inception of the program in 2007, CVWD has recognized 47 homeowners for their beautiful, water-friendly landscapes which feature low water using plants, rock pathways, and efficient irrigation systems.
