The District's Cross-Connection Control Program is mandated by the California Department of Public Health (Title 17 of the California Code of Regulations, Division 1, Chapter 5, Subchapter 1, Group 4, Sections 7583 through 7605). It is an extensive effort to protect the public water system from potential sources of contamination that may exist within the customer's plumbing system and equipment on site.
Backflow prevention assemblies properly installed at the potable water meter help eliminate the potential for contaminated water to flow back into the potable drinking water system by way of 'backflow' through a 'cross-connection'.
