Uses of Recycled Water

CVWD and IEUA set precautionary standards and requirements to ensure the safety of workers and the public. The recycled water system is color-coded purple to ensure recycled water appurtenances are distinguishable from potable appurtenances.

Recycled water is not used for drinking. It has several other valuable uses, including:
  • Landscape Irrigation
  • Fire Suppression
  • Industrial Processes
  • Dust Control on Construction Sites
  • Wetlands Restoration
  • Toilet Flushing
  • Groundwater Recharge
  • Recreational Water Bodies
The main uses for recycled water within the district are for landscape irrigation and industrial purposes. Recycled water is also available for groundwater recharge. CVWD is working closely with our neighboring cities and water districts, as well as the local wastewater provider - the Inland Empire Utilities Agency - to expand the use of recycled water in our service area.

Recycling Process

Cucamonga Valley Water District (CVWD) receives all of its recycled water through the Regional Recycled Water System, operated by the Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA). IEUA provides disinfected tertiary treated recycled water. Tertiary treated recycled water can come into full body contact for recreational purposes and is treated to a level close to drinking water. Review the full recycling process.
